Otto Leonard Tiede passed peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015. He was born May 28, 1925 on the Circle âTâ homestead in Pleasant Valley to John and Emma Rast Tiede. He spoke German until he started school and attended German confirmation classes at Martin Luther Church in Pleasant Valley. He attended country school and graduated from American Falls High School. He was a lifelong member of Martin Luther and St. Johnâs Lutheran Church.
Upon graduation from high school he joined the Marines and served in WWII with the 9th Amphibians Tractor Battalion serving in Guam, Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.
He married Helen Deeg Tiede on October 14, 1951. They settled on the Tiede homestead and farmed until their retirement. He was one of the first to develop irrigation into the valley. They had four children; Vicki (William) Meadows, Debra (Clay) Erickson, James (Debra) Tiede and Patricia Tiede. Eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. They were also adopted parents and grandparents and influenced many young peopleâs lives.
Otto believed in âgiving back.â God, country, community, family and farm. He served on: Farmerâs Grain Growers, Power County Grain Growers. Idaho Beet Growers, Idaho Potato Growers, Power County Rural Fire District Commissioner, American Legion, VFW, Bingham Coop Board, U.S. Marine Corp League, St. Johnâs Lutheran Church Council and School District #381 School Board.
Viewing will be held at St. Johnâs Lutheran Church from 6-8pm on Tuesday, May 5th. Viewing also held from 9:45-10:45am on Wednesday, May 6th at St. Johnâs Lutheran Church. Funeral service following at 11.
