Marshall Payne

November 8, 1946 — January 18, 2024

American Falls-Marshall William Payne, 77, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at his home in American Falls, following a short illness.  His family was with him.  Marshall was born and raised in American Falls and was the only child of William “Bill” and Melba (Blaser) Payne.  He was born November 8, 1946.  He attended schools in American Falls, graduating from American Falls High School class of 1965.  Shortly after graduation, Marshall joined the Air Force and served four honorable years.

Marshall married Patricia “Pat” Joyce Pattee on July 28, 1972, after dating for a year.  They have two children, Brian William, and Amber Joyce.

After returning from the military, he tried his hand at a few different jobs before starting his career as a truck driver with Pocatello Ready mix, where he retired as a Teamster Union Member at the age of 55.  During his time at the Ready-Mix plant his boss Don Garrison taught him everything he knew about concrete and concrete finishing.  He also attended courses provided by the union in welding, hazardous waste disposal and mechanics.  After encouragement from Don Pattee, his Father-in-law, Marshall attended auctioneering school and he and Pat formed their company MW PAYNE & ASSOCIATES AUCTIONS.

While in high school Marshall was the first wrestler from American Falls to go to State.  His passion and “know how” about the sport is what he enjoyed sharing with his son and grandchildren.

Marshall enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and snowmobiling with family and friends.  Marshall loved American Falls and the surrounding area.  He had many other hobbies but the one he loved the most was his 1967 Pontiac GTO.  It was his “Baby”.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia “Pat” Pattee Payne; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Chrissy Payne; his daughter, Amber (Nick) Kunz; grandchildren, Kyler, Braxton, Cashe, Kimber and Carter; step granddaughter, Jordan (Kasey); step great granddaughter Marlee; several unofficially adopted children; nieces and nephews, cousins galore; and many close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Melba Payne; his grandparents; in-laws, Don and Barbara Pattee; and others.
