Lyle Dee Rowbury

Lyle Dee Rowbury, 78, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 in American Falls, Ida. Lyle was born January 17, 1939 in Idaho Falls, Ida. to Virgil and Leah Hill Rowbury.  His childhood was spent on family farms in Osgood, Arco, and Springfield, Ida. When he was 14 he moved with his family to Moses Lake, Wash., where he graduated from high school.

He fulfilled a two-year LDS Mission in Eastern Canada. When he returned home, he joined the Air National Guard. Lyle met Naomi Herrin in Biloxi, Mississippi while he was in tech training with the U.S. Air Force. They were married in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple on July 26, 1962. Their first two years of marriage were spent farming in Moses Lake, Wash., where their first daughter, Deone, was born. In 1964, they went to BYU, where Lyle completed his bachelor's degree in business management with an emphasis in marketing in 1966.

He was employed as a sales representative in Colorado with Enco and Humble Oil Co., which later became Exxon. It was in Colorado that their other children, Todd, Teri, and Jason were born. They lived in the Denver Area, Pueblo, and then Colorado Springs for twelve years. Lyle then took an assignment with Exxon marketing real estate in Houston, Texas. He appraised, bought and sold services station sites. They called Katy, Texas home for the next 34 years.

Throughout his life, Lyle spent a lot of time serving in the Boy Scout program, camping with boys and his family. He and Naomi spent a lot of time traveling in their RV, both for work and recreation. He loved to hunt and fish.

Lyle retired from Exxon in 2000. He and Naomi served an LDS mission in the Texas Houston Mission in 2003 to 2005. In October 2010, they relocated to American Falls, Idaho on a small ranch, where they raised elk. Lyle always wanted a ranch of his own, and loved his little elk ranch dearly.

Lyle spent many years as the primary caregiver of his beloved wife, Naomi, who has suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years. He was heartbroken when he could no longer take care of her on his own. So, he would visit her at the nursing home and feed her all her meals. He was very concerned for her as his health declined as he suffered the pains of Mesothelioma, for the past year. His example of unconditional love was witnessed by family, friends and acquaintances. He will be sorely missed by all.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lynn Rowbury, (Dora).  Lyle is survived by his wife, Naomi Herrin Rowbury; his 4 children, Deone Loosle (Todd), Todd Rowbury (Deborah), Teri Hilchie (Darren), Jason Rowbury (Kara); his 11 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Roger (Rose), Darrell (Judy) and LaRon (Elizabeth); sisters, Blanche Cooper Stauffer (Wayne Cooper, deceased and Ken Stauffer, deceased), GaNene Nelson (Alvin, deceased), Yvonne Lawson (Gary), Marie Sainsbury (Theron), and Marlene Klemmer (Dennis); sister-in-law, Dora Rowbury.

An open house/viewing will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lyle's “Elk Hollow Ranch”, at 2711 Lakeview Road, American Falls, Ida.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center at 111 Church Place, American Falls, Idaho.  A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10-10:40 a.m.  Interment will be at the Falls View Cemetery.
