Glayda Jane Kendell, 84, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, returned to her loving Heavenly Father on October 7, 2023, at Portneuf Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho following complications from surgery. She was born on November 17, 1938, in Blackfoot, Idaho to Melvin Andrew and Doris Lectie (Sparks) Olsen where she joined three siblings, Dennis, Richard, and Sharon. These Olsen children were very close growing up and maintained a strong bond throughout their lives, being brothers and sisters forever and best friends for life.
Glayda grew up in Blackfoot where she received her education. She married Henry Dee Corbridge in Evanston, Wyoming on March 3, 1956. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 28, 1964. Glayda and Dee had four children, Michael Dee, Kathy Jayne, Mychelle Colleen, and Kristian Mel. Glayda and Dee first made their home in the Grandview area of Idaho and eventually moved to Aberdeen where they made their lifelong home and raised their family.
Glayda was a wonderful homemaker and found happiness and contentment in keeping a nice, organized home, sewing, crocheting, reading, and playing softball on the church ball team. She helped Dee with the bookkeeping in the family business and enjoyed attending and supporting her children, grandchildren, and then great-grandchildren in their activities. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings.
Glayda will be remembered for the example she set in appreciating the simple things in life and being a fun happy person despite life’s challenges. She met her challenges with faith, determination, and optimism. She lived with grace, dignity, uncomplaining, not demanding, or becoming bitter.
Dee passed away suddenly in 1986. Glayda filled her time with family and good friends. In 1992, she met and married Stanley Styler. She and Stan spent time between Idaho and California and enjoyed traveling. Stan passed away in 1997. In 2000, Glayda married Howard Kendell. They enjoyed traveling and attending family events until Howard’s passing in 2017.
Glayda is survived by: her daughter Mychelle Vollmer (Karl) and son Kris Corbridge (Jolyn) of Aberdeen, daughter-in-law Carla Corbridge of Rigby, Idaho and son-in-law Bruce Foster of Aberdeen; 13 grandchildren who she dearly loved and they in return loved her; 34 great-grandchildren; her sister Sharon Shields (Lamar) Springfield, Virginia and family members of Stan and Howard.
Glayda is preceded in death by: her parents, brothers, husband Dee, son Mike, daughter Kathy, granddaughter Breckyn Vollmer, and spouses Stan and Howard.
Family and friends can pay their respects at a visitation on Friday, October 13, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Davis-Rose Mortuary, 170 Idaho St. in American Falls, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 149 W. Central Avenue, Aberdeen. There will be a short visitation from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. prior to funeral services. The interment will be at the Aberdeen City Cemetery following services.
