Doris Ann Garrison

August 4, 1937 — November 8, 2024

American Falls

Doris Ann Long Garrison, age 87, of American Falls, ID. passed away Friday morning November 8, 2024 at the Power County Long Term Care facility.

She was born August 4, 1937, in Pocatello, ID. to the late Ray Richard Long and Florence Dell Estep. She was the oldest of eight children, followed by Arnold, Gale, Louise, Glen, Shirley, John and Dell.

The family was living in Inkom, when her mother, Florence passed away during the birth of Dell in 1948. Doris and her siblings later moved to Arbon Valley to be raised on the farm by their grandparents Luther and Lucy Estep.

The Estep Grandparents took on the role of parent and grandparent. The children loved living on the farm. Doris especially loved helping in the garden. She learned many valuable life lessons while helping out on the farm and had many memories of playing in the Bannock Creek and riding horses. Doris even rode her Grandpa’s horse to school and he would come feed it and give it water while she was in school.

Doris married Robert Michaelson in 1953. The couple was blessed with three children Von, Debbie and Jalene. The family settled in American Falls. Doris and Robert later divorced.

She later went on to marry Donal Garrison in 1975. The two were married for 34 wonderful years. The couple loved to travel together. One of their big trips was to the Bahamas. They also enjoyed many camping trips.

Through the years Doris worked many jobs, from spud harvest to babysitting. When her children got older, she worked for Harm’s Memorial in the Housekeeping Department and later became the supervisor. She retired in 1999 after 31 years of service.

Doris was a very talented gardener. She grew many varieties of flowers, had fruit trees, grapes and always an abundant vegetable garden. She always canned all of her harvest. For Christmas, she would gift her jams and salsa and we can’t forget her caramel corn. She also enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.

She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church where she ment many life long friends. She spent many hours volunteering for the American Falls Museum and served on the committee.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Donal Garrison, daughters Deborah Ann Moore and Jalene Phillips and her brothers, Arnie, Gale, Glenn and John Long. Doris is survived by her son Von Michaelson and Ron Garrison (step son), son in laws Jim Phillips and Brent Moore, her Grandchildren Jerry Jr. and DeAnn (wife) Baird, Shanel Blair, Katie and Bobby (husband) Simms, Great grandchildren Jerry D. Baird III, Lexus and Daven (husband) Carter, Makayia Anderson, Kyri Baird, Evan Simms, Braelyn Blair and Carson Simms all of Pocatello, ID, siblings, Louise Hawker of Grangeville, ID., Shirley and husband Paul Kendall of McCammon, ID. and Dell Hayden of Carson, WA. She leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
