David Bethke, age 88, passed away on March 5, 2025. He met the love of his life, Marla, in high school. They had a loving, devoted marriage that lasted 68 beautiful years. David was one of the hardest-working men I have ever known. From developing the land on his farm to raising cattle, he worked from dawn until dusk.
He also lived life to the fullest though. He loved hunting for arrowheads, tanning deer hides, and going to rendezvous. On one of his excursions in the desert, David fell into Crystal Ice Caves, breaking his leg. Needless to say, he had to be rescued. He never met a stranger and could talk your ear off for hours about the history of our area.
I know David has many friends far and near who will miss him dearly. You can be sure, that today he is watching us from heaven, clear-eyed and tanning deer hides.
He is survived by his wife, Marla, and son, Lance (Karyn).
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, starting with a viewing at 10:00, a church service at 11:00, followed by a graveside service, and a luncheon. The service will be held at Sheppard of the Falls Church at 246 Lee Street in American Falls.
